Transportation and deployment of the Algae soil improver module to O.D Uclés

B.4. Adaptation of industries and implementation of the industrial prototype

At the end of August, once the harvest had begun, the algae bio improver module was moved from the University of Vallodolid, Palencia campus to the Fontana winery located in Fuente de Pedro Naharro, Cuenca.

Transportation of the trailer containing the algae module to the winery took an entire day.  Deployment of the module consisted of the installation of the 30 cubic meter tank with its filtration arms installed at the base of the tank which are used to inject gasses primarily CO2 with which to enrich the algae and improve production.  The automatic monitoring systems were also installed which enables the module to be monitored and adjusted remotely.

The waste treatment module which comprises one part of this prototype was not yet installed and so the process was carried out using residual cleaning water from the winery as a nutrient intake. Once loaded into the module it was treated with Chlorella, a local species of algae which had been previously isolated from the soils at Uclés. Thus began the process of developing native algae in the module for deployment in the trial areas, a stated goal of the project.

After two days of thorough testing the energy consumption of the module was adjusted independently in each tank with extremely positive results, achieving energy independence for the production of native algae soil improver, another stated objective of the project.
